I was struggling to make the menu work vertically - monitor screens are tending to get wider these days, at least on laptops, so a menu is wasting less screen real estate at the side. Plus as the menu was insisting on working horizontally I figured there was no challenge left on that side of the issue :-)
So I finally figured on a three stage plan:
- Move it to the top pro tem since it was so damn keen on being there anyway then mess with customisation. This whilst;
- Asking for help from the coders in the event it was a coding error rather than me missing the obvious somewhere.
- Whilst awaiting the reply from (2.), keep messing with it in the hope of finding where whoever went wrong did so and fix the ba#$@^d thing myself.
So I moved it to the top of the body area of the page.....and all the other body content of said page dropped off the bottom of the screen.....oh you little (*&^%&$#@#$$#@*%&*^%$(**%^&$**&&^%$$#&(* etc. etc.
So basically the thing's a lemon from the start!
As I have mentioned in the past, the profanity filter on this system limits ones self expression somewhat at moments of stress and excitement - and in all honesty it's probably a good thing too. Either way, if I had typed the way I felt at that time doubtless it would have cost me a bent keyboard even if my bloodpressure would have dropped more rapidly afterwards.
Still, after all the fuss had died down and I finished punching the wall, I remembered my old Cafe Press account from the days of the mod of the same name for PHPWS 0.98. Aha! I thought, at least we can add something new to the site today!
So I made a simple block to link to it. I doubt if people will really need to buy the stuff but its a fun idea and I like it :-)
And if you want coffee mug or a darn good mouse mat for a friend....or even half a dozen of them.....
Later: The following day the menu people did get back to me with some advice that looked good - but sadly didn't work. At least it did not work in the context of where I am using it anyway. On their website it works like a charm so I have to admit it works in general, it's more that it isn't workable. Making it work in HTML would be childs play - but I have a better product for such circumstances....and needless to say said product will not work in a dynamic site.
So this one's a dead issue, but since the new phpws is all css now - no tables unless you include them yourself - maybe I have an idea or two myself......watch this space.
