Englesos on the Web

Mine all mine(s)

Don't look now but I'm about to do something exciting.....that or outstandingly stupid.....

PHPWS has gone from 1.61 to 1.62 - in other words its update time.

Bearing in mind the now legendary total lack of backward compatability these guys demonstrate, this update makes me a tad nerveous - so lets see if I can handle it from Boost (the built-in update and install module)  before I need to get heavy.
Alternatively the site will crash and I migrate to Mambo  :-)  More to follow.....lets hope on the same website.

More....No we can't Boost the update as the Boost module says the update(s) require the 1.9.4. core, I have the 1.9.3. core which - Boost says - does not need updating.  Spot the error on that one.
Lets try upping it all manually to the server and whatever happens happens.  This will take an hour or few so hang loose some  :-)

Even More.....Well it took a couple of hours to up the files in question, but that is my local ISP's fault in terms of the lousy connectivity they offer.  Can you believe we get problems every time it rains?  The Cyprus business matra - "Nothing is wrong except the customer when they complain"
I could up the .tar file and extract on the server but I prefer doing it locally as I get to virus check everything and I waste my time rather than server resources.  Good relationships with your hosting provider are a major goal.
Still - first thing that happens is all my menus disappear.
Lovely sez I.
On updating via boost they re-appear.
Look, don't do this to me, OK?
The rest of the updates go as planned tho I did get one or two novelties in the way of "Current Version 1.32 - latest Version 1.21" suggesting that a few of the shaky bits in the update system need a second look.  Having said that, I have to observe that the earlier versions of PHPWS did not have an update system so OK let's grumble a bit but in all fairness this is one aspect where Fallout IS ahead of the game.

Ho hum....I suppose we got away with it then.  Now lets watch the results for a day or two and see what happens.
Oh yeah - there's a bug in the menu module and I still can't have targets on the menu links.  *sigh*
I bug reported the one and feature requested the other.
